QUESTION
I'm experiencing slow backup speeds. What can I do?
The backup process seems really slow. Why does that happen and can I control data transfer speed?
ANSWER Slow backup speeds are affected by a variety of factors
Data transfer speeds can be affected by a variety of factors, which may result in slower than expected transfers. Here are some useful tips that may help explain why the transfer speeds are slower than you might expect and how you can improve speed.
IMPORTANT Be aware that each individual file requires processing which will impact the transfer speeds. A large amount of small files will substantially longer to backup than a few large files (where the total backup size is the same).
Tip 1
Download and install the latest version of : Install or uninstall File Protection Desktop
Tip 2
The maximum bandwidth can be configured from within preferences. Refer to the Network Preferences topic to learn how.
Tip 3
The Progress window can be used to monitor the progress of transfers.
NOTE Note that when files are backed up, metadata (data about the file) is also transferred which may result in slower than expected speeds. The effect of the metadata transfer becomes more evident when backing up a large amount of small files. This is expected behavior - the only solution is patience.
Tip 4
Use the appropriate speed test to check your connection speed:
NOTE Identify which URL to use by logging in to your account via File Protection Online and making note of what URL is shown once you have logged in.

Tip 5
Try another network connection. To help isolate the cause, try a different network connection to see if the speed is affected.
